What is Apple Pay?

Apple’s mobile contactless payment service, known as Apple Pay, is supported by multiple banks across 60 countries, accepts all major debit and credit cards and is used by over 400 million consumers. It is a simple, secure way to make contactless payments using a host of Apple devices, including iPhones, iPads, Macs and the Apple Watch.

This digital alternative to using a physical card wallet allows you to make fast payments with the Apple devices you carry every day.

Is Apple Pay secure?

Yes it is!  When it comes to protecting your money and personal details, Apple has put in place serious measures to remain secure. Here are the measures they’ve enabled:

• You must have a passcode set on your device and, optionally, Face ID or Touch ID. If this gets removed, so will your account details.
• Apple doesn’t store or have access to the original credit, debit, or prepaid card numbers that you use with Apple Pay.
• No transaction information can be tied back to you—your transactions stay between you, the merchant or developer, and your bank or card issuer.
• No details are saved to iCloud.
• If you lose your device, you can cancel Apple Pay immediately by putting your device in Lost Mode.
• When you make a purchase using Apple Pay, the merchant does not receive your original card number. The merchant receives a unique encrypted code that is created and sent to authorise a transaction when you make a purchase.

Using Apple Pay with Pomelo Pay

Customers can use Apple Pay for both in-person and online payments.

If you are using a QR code via the Pomelo Pay app to take payments, then the customer simply needs to scan this using their phone, and click on 'Pay with Apple Pay.' A secure payment is made in a single click or tap.

If the customer is using a Payment Link or buying a product from your Shop, we will automatically detect if they have Apple Pay enabled and offer them a one-click purchase button. This allows customers to conveniently and securely pay for products without entering their card details.
